The LifeChamps Kick-off Meeting took place on January 20th & 21st, 2020, at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTH), Thessaloniki, Greece. AUTH, as the Project Coordinator, successfully hosted and organized the meeting, setting the basis for a fruitful collaboration. The 15 project partners, coming from nine countries, participated via their representatives, who contributed to the meeting with interesting and informative presentations.

During the two days of the meeting, the LifeChamps consortium had the opportunity to discuss further project’s objectives, set action points on specific work packages and exchange knowhow, experiences and ideas for the coming period.

It is noted that the LifeChamps is a three-year duration project (2019-2022), funded by the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme under grant agreement No 875329.

Special invited speakers, the Head of the AUTH School of Medicine Prof. Asterios Karagiannis and the Director of the 3rdRegional Health Authority of Macedonia Dr Panagiotis Bogiatzidis, attended the first day of the meeting, warmly welcoming the innovative research venture of LifeChamps. The second day of the meeting was framed by short interventions from oncology expert, Prof. Christos Papandreou and the Hellenic Association of Breast Cancer “Alma Zois”, represented by Ms Despoina Partsia, speaking about their expectations and sharing their vision for the project.

The vision of LifeChamps is to address the inherent complexity caused by cancer treatments and to act in the monitoring of health status and improvement of quality of life in a significant manner by using emerging developments in the fields of Big Data, Data Analytics and Artificial Intelligence. Its innovative components will be built upon three pillars: Prediction – Care – Advice.
