Project Team

The LifeChamps Project Team is composed of highly-skilled professionals experienced in both clinical studies and medical research as well as in technical developments. The diversity of expertise within LifeChamps is essential for achieving the technological challenges of the project. The proposed group ensures a full set of complementary skills and experiences for designing, developing and testing of a suitable LifeChamps solution. Their complementarity extends over many diverse technological fields, bringing together the necessary expertise and know-how to achieve the project goals. The LifeChamps partners are fully capable to exploit the new knowledge and new developments. The point of view of diverse areas covered by the LifeChamps partners will also steer the project’s activities of towards commercial oriented paths.

Panos Bamidis

Prof. of Medical Physics, Medical Informatics, Medical Education at Lab of Medical Physics, School of Medicine, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTH)

Panagiotis Bamidis is a Professor of Medical Physics, Medical Informatics and Medical Education in the School of Medicine of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTH), Greece. He designs, implements and evaluates IT and Assistive Technologies systems that improve everyday activities of elderly or other vulnerable groups and improves their health or life quality or improves the education and training of health professionals. He conducts research that attempts to understand how the brain reacts to different stimuli, technological or educational interventions, as well as, the development and evolution of human emotions and sleep transitions. Co-creation and Living Lab approaches are within his active interests. He is the co-ordinator of seven large European projects, and the principal investigator for many national and international funded projects. He is the President of the Hellenic Biomedical Technology Society, the international Society of Applied Neuroscience, a member of the Administration Boards of other societies and patient associations, the Chairman/Organiser of some 19 international conferences and several national Biomedical Technology conferences. Since 2012 he has established LLM Care ecosystem (www.llmcare.gr), the business exploitation of the LLM project, which is a candidate reference site of the EIP-on-AHA. In 2013 he established the Active and Healthy Ageing Living Lab in Thessaloniki (ThessAHALL; http://www.aha-livinglabs.com/) which in 2018 a full member of the European Network of Living Labs (ENoLL). In 2017, he became a visiting Professor of Medical Education Technology, Innovation and Change for the Leeds Institute of Medical Education (LIME) of the University of Leeds, UK. He received Prizes for the Best Track Record in funded research projects (AUTH Research Committee 2009; AUTH Dean of Health Sciences 2016) and Best overall high/extra-ordinary academic performance (AUTH Dean of Health Sciences 2018, 2019).

Pedro Miguel Gonçalves Louro

Big Data & Analytics Advanced Architect at Altran Portugal SA

Mr. Pedro Louro has a degree in Mathematics, another in Informatics Engineering, a Master in Mathematics Engineering and a Post-graduation course in Enterprise Management. With 10+ years of experience in Business Intelligence, Big Data architectures design and data engineering processes modeling, Pedro worked previously in relevant organizations such as SONAE, Intrasoft International, European Parliament, INDRA Sistemas or Polytechnic School of Engineering of Porto. His main responsibilities include the management of Big Data Consultants and Data Scientists in Analytics projects, designing Big Data architectures and roadmaps, writing technical proposals, leading R&D projects, as well as Technical advisory on Big Data platforms design.

Sofia Reppou

Research Associate at Medical Physics Laboratory (AUTH)

Sofia Reppou obtained her MSc degree from the Psychology department of Sheffield University and her Degree from the Psychology department of Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. She completed her degree training at the psychiatry of Leros, Greece. She holds a certification in Management, Strategy and Marketing from the University of Macedonia, Thessaloniki. She has worked as a counsellor supporting repatriated Greeks and immigrants from the former USSR countries in vocational seminars organised by Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (1996) and as a volunteer counsellor at Diavata prison of Thessaloniki (2007) under the auspices of ARSIS NGO. She was engaged for several years in managerial positions at Vodafone Telecommunications and has extended experience in project management as well as human resource management. She is a research associate at the Laboratory of Medical Physics with extended experience in European and National Projects. She has recently started her PhD in Palliative care at the University of Leeds in collaboaration with AUTH. Her research interests include the areas of paliative care, new technologies supporting the QoL of chronic patients, well being and ageing wel and people at risk of exclusion. She is an active volunteer supporting refugees and immigrants in Thessaloniki since 2016.

Zoe Valero-Ramon

Senior Researcher at the Universidad Politècnica de València (UPV)

Zoe Valero-Ramon obtained her Degree in Telecommunications Engineering from the Universidad Politècnica de València. She is currently doing her Ph.D. in Process Mining applied to the health domain at the Universidad Politècnica de València. She has more than ten years of experience in European funded projects as a senior researcher. She has mainly specialized in ICT supporting health and social care, and patient empowerment through education and training. Her research interests include the improvement and knowledge extraction of health-care processes using Process Mining techniques.

Dany Shapiro

Mr. Dany Shapiro (male) a proven, visionary and innovative ICT, Big-Data, Cloud Architect with 12 years of experience in all products development life-cycle aspects. A JAVA Expert a driver of high-growth/ high-scale solutions and products in disruptive research and composition of Telco / enterprise grade Cloud / Hybrid platforms. Knowledgeable with hands-on experience in Cloud Computing Architecture and implementation (PaaS, SaaS), SDN and NFV while focusing on storing, processing and analysis of vast amounts of information using technologies like Stream analytics, NoSQL, In-memory data fabric, MapReduce, ML, Predictive analytics and Data integration. Focused on innovation of disruptive technologies, mainly the architectural challenges and the common complexities inherent when faced with elasticity and scale of distributed cloud computing. It‘s completely natural for me to own the architectural and technological responsibility for several development teams, display of leadership abilities in Agile work environment / Scrum.
My Technology Stack with hands on experience:
1) Architectural-patterns, Microservices, OOP, AOP, SOA, Vast Open Source Projects contributions.
2) Big-Data: EMR, Apache Hive, Apache Pig, Apache Spark, MapReduce, Couchbase, This proposal version was submitted by Sofia REPPOU on 24/04/2019 16:44:01 Brussels Local Time. Issued by the Participant Portal Submission Service, Hadoop, MongoDB and Vert.x.
3) Server side: Vast experience in Platform as a Service Architecture, Java, Spring, Guice, CXF, ORM, EclipseLink, Hibernate, Lucene, Encache.
4) Databases: In-memory DB, SAP HANA, MySQL, PostgreSQL, SQL, NoSQL.
5) Strong security background, risks assessments and management. Authentication and authorization frameworks design and implementation.
6) Cloud computing: IaaS, AWS, SAP HANA Cloud, Kubernetes, PaaS, Cloud Foundry, SaaS, LSO, SDN, NFV.

André Alegria

RTD Project Manager at Altran Portugal SA

Mr. André Alegria (male) has a MSc. in Aerospace Engineering from Instituto Superior Técnico, in Lisbon. He started his professional career at an aerospace provider of maintenance services and aerostructures manufacturer, managing several projects both in civil and defense domains from shop-floor workflow optimization to corporate real-time KPI platforms, with a big emphasis in Digital Transformation and Smart Manufacturing. Currently, he works at Altran Portugal as an RTD Project Manager and is responsible for managing several National and EU funded projects in domains such as 5G, artificial intelligence, big data analytics, among others, as well as for coordinating the bidding processes to tackle new innovation initiatives.

Kiko Núñez

Head of Research and Innovation, DPO

Kiko Núñez holds a BSc in Telecommunications Engineering (2011), MSc in Electronics, Signal Processing and Communications (2014) and PhD student in Learning Health Systems at the University of Seville. He was the Executive Coordinator of the EU H2020 FAIR4Health project and is member of Research Data Alliance and AENOR CTN139 of Information Technologies and Communications for Health. He has 10 years of experience as a researcher in health informatics projects at regional, national and European level. His work has resulted in 30+ scientific contributions in national and international journals and congresses.

Ioannis Sarris

Research and Innovation Software Engineer at Intrasoft International SA

Mr. Ioannis Sarris (M) is a Research and Innovation Software Engineer at INTRASOFT International S.A. With extensive experience in both leadership and engineering roles, Ioannis has a track record of delivering successfully complex projects across diverse local and international teams on tight deadlines. He has significant experience in building and technically owning software for some of the largest telecommunication and technology companies in France (Dassault Systèmes, IDEMIA and Orange Labs) and in Greece (Intrasoft International, Fujitsu-Siemens). Previously, he worked as Senior Research & Development Software Engineer – Team Leader at Dassault Systemes S.A at DELMIA Digital Manufacturing Foundation team where he mainly focused on the design and development of 3D digital manufacturing applications and algorithms used for planning, simulating and modeling modern global production processes. Formerly, he worked as Research and Development Software Engineer at IDEMIA on the design and development of the next generation OS of smart cards – eSIM (embedded SIM) and its applications. He also worked as Research and Development Engineer intern at Orange Labs (formerly France Telecom R&D) at the Big Data for Content Delivery Lab on the development of a distributed monitoring and reporting system of QoS/QoE metrics for CDNs. He received his Master of Science in Networked Computer Systems from Telecom ParisTech (ENST) in Paris, France, and his Diploma in Electronic and Computer Engineering from Technical University of Crete (TUC) in Chania, Greece. His research interests lie in the field of industry 4.0, big data analytics, cloud computing, IoT and digital manufacturing.

Panagiotis Emmanouil Kartsidis

Research Associate at Medical Physics Laboratory (AUTH)

Panagiotis Emmanouil Kartsidis, was born in Xanthi, Greece in 1986. He holds a BSc in Mathematics and a MSc in Medical Computer Science. He is a Ph.D. candidate at the School of Medicine, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTH). Following his MSc, he joined the Neuroscience of Affection and Cognition group (NCA) based at the Lab of Medical Physics, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTH) as a research associate. He spent a summer in Cyprus working on electrotomography under Dr. Andy Ioannides. Upon his return, he joined Neurofeedback Center of Northern Greece to assist on a 21-month project, funded by the EC research grants. He also worked at BRAINWAVE research project, implementing BCI technology for people with spinal cord injury. Currently he works at the SmokeFreeBrain Project, also funded by the EC research grants. His research interests and experience are on the fields of statistics, EEG, biomedical engineering and signal processing. Additionally to his research, he is the instructor of the cryptology course at CTY-Greece.

Irene Tabakis

Research Engineer at Cyberlens BV

Irene-Maria Tabakis has a diploma in Informatics and Telecommunication Engineering and an MSc in Advanced Computer and Communication Systems with a specialization field the Intelligent Systems and the Computational Intelligence Methodologies and Applications. She is a master's student in Medical Informatics and a PhD candidate at Spatio-temporal big-data analytics regarding neurogenerative diseases in Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AuTH). Her expertise is machine learning engineering and web development. Since 2016, she is an associate researcher in Alzheimer Hellas. She has designed and developed ‘Empedocles’ Electronic Health Record (EHR) for Alzheimer's disease and other dementias. She is a member of the Laboratory of Neurodegenerative Diseases (LND) and Laboratory of Geodesy and Geomatics of AuTH.
